THE MOST BEAUTIFUL I SAW

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 17:20-21

“Some Pharisees asked Jesus when the Kingdom of God would come. His answer was, ‘The Kingdom of God does not come in such a way as to be seen. No one will say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’; because the Kingdom of God is within you.”

Most of us, teachers and students, would agree, “to question well is to teach well.”

Once there was a teacher who believed that we find what we are looking for. So everyday he would ask his students: “What was the most beautiful thing you saw yesterday?” He felt that educating the heart was as important as educating the mind. He said that in the beginning his students would refer almost exclusively to natural or physical beauty only, such as sunrise, sunset, flowers, girls, Monas Monument, etc. But gradually the scope of comments broadened to include interpersonal and moral incidents.

Adrian shared, “Last night I saw my father apologize to my elder brother for having accused him unjustly. I thought it was beautiful.”

Bernadhet said, “Yesterday I saw a boy help an old lady step down from a bus. I thought it was beautiful.”

Cecil added, “Yesterday I saw a tear in the eye of a nurse at a hospital. I thought it was beautiful.”

David said, “Yesterday I saw a girl share her food with a girl who had none.”

Eko closed, “I thought it was beautiful when I saw a boy help a blind man across a crowded street.”

The most beautiful things first of all express the deep interpersonal relationship or even in the moral incidents. When Jesus said,” the Kingdom of God is within you,” means that the kingdom of God is not far from our day-to-day live experiences. The most beautiful mentioned above shows us that the beauty of our moral actions happen when God Himself reigns and manages what we are doing.

Our Father. Hail Mary. Glory be. Saint Peter, pray for us!
