Saint Peter’s School has been chosen by the Goethe Institute Indonesia as a partner school. As the ceremonial partnership we had a special event of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding  (MoU) between the Goethe Institute Indonesia and Saint Peter’s School which was held in Saint Peter Auditorium, 7^th Floor Building B at 3 p.m. on the August 12, 2010. Before the signing of MoU, Mr. Steffen Correll, the Director of Goethe Institute Indonesia addressed the audience more or less about what is the meaning of partnership, why is Saint Peter’s  School selected as being a partner school, how the partnership has to be implemented, who will get the benefits, etc. It is good to hear that the reason of selecting Saint Peter’s School among many schools in Indonesia as a partner school of Goethe Institute Indonesia  is that Saint Peter’s School considered as one of the best schools. It is good to be informed that German language has been taught since year 7, this fact will probably make our students fluent in German language after year 12 studying at Saint Peter’s School.

The are several advantages of becoming partner of Goethe Institute, such as there will be selected students who are learning German language as a choice to be sent to Germany for three weeks, or the best German language students will be sent to join International gathering, or students will have a change to get scholarship to do higher studies in Germany, or German teachers will be sent to follow  teacher training program in Germany or in Indonesia itself, and many other advantages. The MoU was signed by Mr. Steffen Correll as the director of Goethe Institute Indonesia and by  Mr. Martin Hahn as the director of education of Saint Peter’s School, witnessed by Ms. Claudia Ruppert, the First Secretary and Head of Press and Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Jakarta.

IGSCE and AS Level Cambridge Examination Results of Saint Peter Senior High School students who appeared on last May-June 2010 exams are as follows:

This personality assessment are going to be held on August 14, 2010, Saturday, at 8 to 10 a.m. in class rooms, 5 th floor, Building B of Saint Peter’s School.

We will distribute the result about four (4) days after  the test. Students and their parents have discussed it at least 3 days before attending the FREE SEMINAR for parents and teachers which will be held on:

Reflection

Today the Catholic Church in the world commemorates the prophet Elijah, the great prophet in the Old Testament. Do you remember how He met God? Yes, He met or experienced God not in the strong and furious wind, neither in the earthquake nor in the fire, but he met God in the soft whisper of a voice. It is symbolizing that he met God in the silence, in his deep and peaceful heart, not in anger or any other unhealthy feelings.

Today’s Gospel spells the similar words when Jesus said my mother, my brothers and sisters are those who do the will of my Father in heaven, not just those who are related to the blood or physical relationship. Jesus clearly asks all of us, teachers, staff and students to GO BEYOND our physical performance. Indeed our physical performance is important, we should wear a neat dress, keep smiling, greet each other, etc. Yes, you are right! We have to be proud as members of Saint Peter’s School, a catholic Christian School, we should loudly declare to others that we are students of Saint Peter’s or we are teachers of Saint Peter’s. But moreover Jesus wants us to go beyond such physical identities, Jesus wants us to behave as teachers or students who are expressing God’s will in our day to day life, in our feeling, our thinking and in our acting properly. For instance, how students have to respect to teachers and teachers also do the same by real actions, such as preparing lesson plan, creating a good learning and teaching process, how to make it fun, etc.

Let’s pray. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be. Saint Peter, pray for us.

How about our students? Well, these last two days, July 15-16, 2010, OSIS is making an Orientation Days (which is so called MOS) for the new students. Hopefully by this MOS, all new comers will know deeply and love dearly their “alma mater”, so that they are able to enjoy studying at Saint Peter’s School to have a strong root, to build a solid faith and of course to achieve their academic excellence.

When I was having meal in a Rice Bowl Restaurant with my wife, just opposite our table I saw a young boy wearing T-Shirt and a cross round his neck and before meal he made a sign of the cross to pray. I immediately recognized he is a catholic. I felt happy that such young boy dared to express his faith in a public place. The Acts of the Apostles (14:19-28) mentioned above tells us how Saint Paul expressed his faith without any fear or afraid. He was stoned by the Jews when he was preaching the Good News, and even he was dragged out of the town and left him half-dead. It’s scary, right! But Paul was unceasingly preaching the Good News to everyone and even he dared to say: “We must pass through many troubles to enter the Kingdom of God.” Why did Paul dare to preach though a lot of troubles even he had to sacrifice his life? Because we know well that in the past Paul was Saul, he hated Jesus Christ and his followers, and tried to persecute them, but after he met the Risen Lord Jesus Christ on his way to Damascus, he converted to be the disciple of Jesus Christ. He preached the Gospel everywhere in the whole Asia Minor and crossed to Rome. Why did Paul dare to preach that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world? The answer is because of FAITH. Faith is a totally surrender to God and let God’s will be done in our day-to-day life. It is what happened in Saint Paul after believing in Jesus Christ. He wholeheartedly surredered to God, to be an instrument of the Kingdom of God. As a student of Saint Peter, whatever your faith is, let make our faith be really fruitful, which can be seen in our good attitudes, our effective learning style and habit, respect to others properly, etc.

TODAY’S WORD

One of the best things I’ve learned is that God does not bring people into my life so I can make them just like me. God wants us to be different. He’s given us different personalities, different strengths, different hobbies and different looks. He’s made us all different so we can sharpen one another and cause each other to rise up higher in life.

If you’re going to be happy and enjoy your relationships, you’ve got to learn how to appreciate the differences and learn from the people in your life. If you don’t focus on the right things, you’ll end up allowing the little irritations to cause you to become resentful. Remember, nobody is perfect. If you’re going to grow, you’ve got to be willing to overlook some things. Our assignment is not to fix people. Our assignment is to love people. Our assignment is to sharpen one another so we can move forward in the good plan God has prepared.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father God, thank You for the people You have placed in my life. Help me see them the way You see them. Help me to appreciate the ways we sharpen one another so that we can help each other fulfill Your plan for our lives. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
