Reading and meditation on the Word of God on Friday of the 28th week in ordinary time, October 17, 2025, Commemoration of Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr
Our meditation today is entitled: God Counts Every Detail. When Jesus says that "the very hairs of your head are all numbered," he wants to emphasize that God's love and concern include the smallest things in human life. There is not a single detail of our existence that escapes His knowledge and attention. He is omniscient and all things are in His knowledge.
This expression contains a priceless depth of faith: that God is not only the great Being in heaven, but also the God who is near, who counts every single hair of our heads, every tear, and every step we take. He knows us more than we know ourselves.
The figure of Abraham is a clear example of faith that trusts every detail of God's guidance. When God called him to leave his homeland for a land he did not yet know, Abraham did not demand maps or certainty. He just followed step by step according to God's commands. Abraham's faith was not a blind faith, but faith of awareness and obedience—believing that every step God led had meaning and purpose. Therefore, he is called "the father of all believers."
Abraham's story reminds us that true faith is not just about believing in big things, but also faithfulness in small things. In everyday life, God speaks through seemingly trivial events—through work, encounters, difficulties, or even solitude. When we learn to pay attention to the details of life the way God cares, we begin to recognize the traces of His hand hidden behind our daily routines.
As Abraham's children in faith, we are called to emulate his faithful obedience. We don't always know where life's path will take us, but we can choose to walk with God who counts every detail of our steps. When we faithfully follow His will and teachings, even in small things—loving our neighbors, forgiving, being patient, working honestly—we are participating in the great plan of salvation. We are following the guidance of His Spirit.
Finally, true faith is not about knowing all the answers, but rather believing that God holds every answer. He never closes His eyes in regulating our lives, even down to the smallest details. So, when we feel that life is uncertain or our plans are not going as expected, remember: God is counting every detail with love. In His hands, nothing is wasted; all will be fine in time for those who continue to believe and walk in faith like Abraham.
Let us pray. In the name of the Father ... O most loving God, increase our faith if we forget and are not aware of Your presence in every life event that we experience. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...
