Indonesia has one student who is properly being raised a double thumbs up!

Wilbert Thamrin, a student of SMAS Saint Peter, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, successfully gains runner up of International German Olympiad 2022 on the B2 Level, which be held in Hamburg, Germany, July 25 – August 5, 2022.  The First winner is Theodora from Rumania, and Tekla from Georgia is the second runner up.

This two-yearly Olympiad is followed by 107 Secondary High School students attain the age of 14-17 years old from 56 countries.

Goethe Institute in collaboration with International German Teacher Association organizes and contests this competition in three level German Language of A2, B1, and B2.

Wilbert himself explains that has been in Hamburg from July 3, 2022 and joins German course for about 3 weeks before entering the international competition.

Wilbert was unfortunately declared positive covid-19 on July 26 and just one day before the competition was stated negative from covid-19. He at the beginning felt so disappointed, but then when covid-19 has gone from him, he was back full of spirit to enter the competition. It’s amazing, Wilbert could brilliantly follow the competition.

He shares that due to this pandemic he can exactly prepare this Olympiad better, because he can manage the time schedule by himself including when he should follow the online German course at home and of course to enrich his German language freely. “For me,” Wilbert said, “this covid-19 pandemic experience can be said as a blessing from God, because if the situation is normal, maybe I can’t be able to concentrate to learn German language, for I tend to be active in many activities, not only school’s activity, but also church’s activity.” (JW)
