OUR “ABBA, FATHER”

Our meditation today has the theme: Our Abba, Father. God had made His radical choice to come into the world through the mystery of incarnation, and we should consider it as an event absolutely from His own will. God had taken the initiative to open our awareness and strengthen our faith in Him about the significance of incarnation, and therefore, He decided to enter into history and human life on earth.

The incarnation had culminated in the Word of God made flesh in the human body. And so, we have in all times Jesus Christ as the real presence of God. The Lord Jesus does represent grace, blessing and the love of the Father who is always good and merciful to us. The God who had been perceived very far and unreachable, has been so close and even united with us. Jesus Christ has been the Immanuel for us, which means God is with us.

To reveal and to celebrate our communion with the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ, we have the prayer of “Our Father”. God is “Our” Father, because we participate in the life of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father. The fruit of this unity is best seen in our fundamental being as the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, which signify our true dignity. We call and treat the God as the Father because our dignity as children who enjoy a special participation in the life of Jesus Christ.

We are not slaves to serve any kind of spirit of the world who see God a frightening and threatening power. Yet we are filled with the Spirit of God that makes us able to speak and to stand in true faith when we say our “Abba, Father”. In saying this, we feel proud, grateful, awesome and highly dignified. This most particular sign of our personal relationship with God the Father can be seen in the manifestation of the power of love and not the law that rules our lives.

Our relationship as children with the heavenly Father should be an expression of divine and natural love. Such love is a genuine love. The power of love indeed brings us to salvation, and we see this for example in Jesus who did a healing miracle to the old woman who had been suffering from her sickness for years. This act of charity had purposely dispelled a status quo belief that always prioritized the sacred obedience to the existing law, and therefore, to prevent people from loving and care for their neighbors who are in urgent need of attention.

When we constantly keep our genuine relationship with the heavenly Father, love remains powerfull and will be victorious despite sin and evil continue to take control over the world and  human life.

Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, open the way for those who are looking for you. Give us true freedom that we may walk in your way of love and praise you in all moments of life. Show us how to bring compassion and healing for those around us who need to be loved. Hail Mary full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...
